We should be attentive while conversation being a good listener with an open mind without being judgmental and should be empathetic.

We should assess the needs and expectations of the student. Career assessment will help the student to understand their skills, interests so that they make their decisions regarding their career. Their are some assessments like personality test(which let them know their attitudes how they are suitable for different fields), skill assignment (Which helps them to know about the skill required for their career).

These assessments will let them know which career is suitable for them with clarity and will able to manage their weaker points by improvement.
